Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Review
I can remember when this movie was released in the theaters. At the time I was just a kid and I had no interest in going to see it but I can still remember the massive amount of advertising for T3 that summer. About 5 years later I finally got into the Terminator movies. I was alone one night and the first Terminator was on tv, I started watching and I’ve been hooked ever since. I loved the engrossing storyline and the overall fun nature of the movies. I sat down to watch Rise of the Machines last night for the 2nd time. The first time I seen it I really liked it and wondered just why in the hell did people hate it so damn much and after the second watching I still hold that opinion.
“After the failure of Skynet to kill Sarah Connor before her son is born and to kill John himself as a child, it sends back another Terminator, the T-X, in a last attempt to wipe out as many Resistance officers as possible, since Connor himself cannot be traced. This includes John’s future wife, but not John himself as his whereabouts are unknown to Skynet. Yet, as the story unfolds, the T-X coincidentally finds the Resistance leader-to-be.”
That is the official plot line taken from wikipedia. Yes it’s the same ole thing but dammit it’s good. I honestly have no clue how people can knock this movie. Actually, the only people who DO knock it are fanboys who honestly need to get a life. First they bitch about this and then they bitch about Terminator Salvation for doing something different. As you can see above the story is pretty much the same as the older movies but this time we have a hot ass cyborg doing the killing instead of a dude. Do people really have that much of a problem with sexy women who kill people or do they just prefer to see half naked and steroided up dudes doing it? Yes there is some cheesy parts in this but if you didn’t think part of T2 were cheesy, you sir are an idiot.
In this movie the T100 played by Arnold Schwarzenegger returns, but not to protect John Connor. This time he’s came back to protect John’s future wife. John is there too and he’s still the central character but he is no longer the target. Who is Arnie protecting John’s lady from? Well Skynet sent back the new T-X machine to kill her. The T-X is a sexy ass badass bitch who isn’t nearly as deadly as the T-1000 but she’s a lot more fun to watch. From here we get the inevitable cat and mouse game That ends with the T-X being defeated and the world entering judgment Day. Yes, in this movie we actually get to see the nuclear war start and just to be honest it scared the living hell out of me because it could really happen someday. There is no happy ending in this, it ends with us seeing nuclear missiles going off across the world.
Overall it’s good fun popcorn movie material just like the other Terminator movies. If you think they’re anything better than that you’re just lying to yourself. This one is just as good as the others and it’s highly entertaining. It even has my favorite version of John Connor played by Nick Stahl. If you’re a fan of action or sci-fi you should give it a go, and if you’re a Terminator fan I’d think that you’ll like it.
Best actor – Nick Stahl playing the best John Connor ever
Best Scene – The ending where we see Judgment Day take place
Overall rating – 4/5
